It’s so annoying yet so compelling, I just can’t seem to stop listening to this song. You can enjoy the annoyingness youself on Amazon. I wish I could find tab for the banjo for it.

The Groundhog song is one of the most explicit meat songs and therefore one of my favorites. It also taught me many interesting facts (some of which can be found here http://www.terrierman.com/song.htm):
1) Whistle Pig is another name for a ground hog (this also makes a good nickname for a toddler)
2) The skin of a ground hog is very useful- you can make shoe strings or banjo skins from it
3) You use a pole to get a ground hog out of it’s hole
4) If the ground hog is really good, it will leave ground gravy all over your chin
The perfect song combining both of my favorite elements of traditional music- god and meat. I first heard it on Close to Home: Old Time Music from Mike Seeger’s Collection http://www.folkways.si.edu/albumdetails.aspx?itemid=2404
